Parking charges at Angus Council-operated off-street car parks have been permanently removed since 1 April 2025, following a review of the council’s parking scheme and its impact on local towns.

The decision means the removal of meters across 33 car parks in Angus, ending a system that had been reintroduced in 2018 and faced significant public opposition.

This change brings certainty for residents, businesses, and visitors, removing a long-running source of frustration in town centres across Angus.

At a time when many households are already dealing with rising costs, the removal of parking charges makes it easier for people to access local shops, services, and amenities without facing an additional financial barrier.

Town centres depend on accessibility and footfall. By removing parking charges, this decision helps support local businesses, encourages more regular visits, and strengthens the role of town centres as places where people can shop and meet.

It is a straightforward change, but one that makes a real difference to how people use and experience their local town centres.
