Improving access to primary healthcare has been a clear priority, making sure people can be seen quickly, especially when they need urgent care.
The creation of walk-in GP centres is a practical step to improve access to healthcare for all. By allowing patients to be seen without the need for advance booking, these centres help ensure that people can receive timely care when they need it most.
Importantly, thanks to SNP candidate Lloyd Melville, this approach is now being brought to Angus, with plans for a new walk-in GP centre that will deliver these benefits locally and improve access to urgent care for communities across the area.
This will also help take pressure off GP surgeries by reducing demand on appointment systems and easing the backlog that many practices face every day.
This measure is about making our NHS stronger. By increasing capacity, waiting times can be reduced, ensuring that pressure is eased for both patients and staff.
This is part of wider investment in primary care, with Scottish Government health funding reaching over £19 billion in 2025-26, supporting the expansion of community-based services and multidisciplinary teams.
The SNP has consistently prioritised investment in our NHS, recognising that accessible, reliable healthcare is fundamental to a fair society.
By strengthening urgent care access, including here in Angus, these centres help ensure that GP practices can focus more effectively on ongoing care, complex conditions, and continuity of treatment. For our communities, this means faster access to care and a more responsive system.
